New Years Resolutions

Sycamore Grove
So every year I make a long list of New Years resolutions, and I get so overwhelmed a week into it, that I fail miserably at all of them.  I am not going to do that this year.  I have limited myself to two year long goals to make me a better person.
1. Run a Color Run 5k with Jason.  This will force me to exercise.
2.  Become "not easily provoked" (Moroni 7:45).  I lose my patience pretty quickly, and my boys deserve better than that.  This is the goal for the year, to practice being more laid back.
Wish me luck.

October: Boomers with Alicia & Ernie

We finally took Ollie golfing for the first time!  We might have been a little lenient on the rules, but that made it all the more fun!  Thank you Ernie & Alicia!

Merry Christmas!

Here are some pictures from my family from last years Christmas!  I wish we could all be together this year!
Merry Christmas and may we all remember the real reason for the holiday!

November: Splashing in puddles

Poor Oliver has had this fantasy about splashing in puddles and having leaf throwing fights.  This gets a little difficult when you live in an apartment building and he was born the first year of this crazy California drought.  Well rain finally came, so we trekked on over to Granny and Papa's house for our leaf fight and puddle jumping.  He loved it!

July: Happy Birthday Jon & Sariah

Our friends betrayed us, left us for other states, but before they ran off we had a final Birthday/farewell/final RISK night together.  What the heck are we going to do with our time now that they are gone?

Things Ollie Says...

A couple of weeks ago Oliver and I went to the zoo together.  While we were there he told me, "I think the sun bears are addicted to candy corn" and "Torako the tiger is maternal."  How he knows the words maternal or addicted are beyond me.

While playing at Granny's house, Oliver said, "Should we go outside in the beautiful wonder of granny's house?"  He talks like an eighty year old nerd.  And I love him for it.

Oliver's new favorite song is "Butt Showers"  by AC-DC.  I'm pretty sure he made it up, but it sure has a catchy tune!

June: Filoli Gardens with my favorite people ever!

Hahaha Oh Liesl.  She didn't want to get her arms sunburned.  Hahaha, this is why you are awesome.

Cragels for lunch: part bagel, part croissant

And an umbrella so Liesl doesn't get sunburned.  Hahaha, I can't stop laughing at how dorky we looked!

Oh how I miss these friends.  Move home ASAP!  Please!
Oh, and Filoli Gardens is lovely.

Things Ollie Says...

1st Birthday

Granny was rocking out to her Christmas music the other day when Oliver said, "Granny I do not like your Christmas music.  Do you have any ACDC or Guns and Roses?"
We have taught him well.

October: Livermore Air Show

In between General Conference sessions, we took Oliver to the Livermore Airport for its annual air show.  He loved all the planes and especially the emergency helicopters.

Things Ollie Says...

Oliver loves to pray.
Lots of evenings, as soon as we sit at the table he starts praying even before we can ask him to do so.
Recently, he has been thanking Heavenly Father for his Birthday, Christmas, and "my love of food" (direct quote from Oliver).
Last week he was playing with his cars, pretending to put them to bed, and I noticed he said a prayer with each of them before tucking them in.
I love talking to this boy, and so does his Heavenly Father.

September: Seymore Marine Discovery Museum

Not too long ago we had an adventure in Santa Cruz with our friend Kristine.  We saw dolphins and sharks at the Seymore Marine Discovery Museum, had fresh strawberries at a local fruit stand, and devoured Arcangeli's artichoke bread.  I love the area we live in!

Things Ollie Says...

Off to Granny's House

The other night, Oliver fell off his new big boy bed while sleeping.  We went in his room to help him get back to bed, and he told us that he thinks his stuffed animal pushed him off the bed.  Ruthless stuffed animals.

Oliver and Jason were having a serious discussion while sitting on the Lightning McQueen potty chair.  Oliver looked up and very sincerely asked, "Dad, why are you a dork?"
We have all been wondering that for years.

Jason told me some good news in the car the other day, so I exclaimed "Hallelujah" in gratitude.  Oliver promptly corrected me, "No, it is Holly Shiftwell."  He might watch Cars 2 too much.

I found these newborn photos of Oliver from my cell phone.  It's hard to remember this crazy three year old as a tiny newborn, so innocent and sweet.  I love this kid.

What I Would Wear Today...

It is way too cold for me.  I love the fall leaves, cocoa all the time, and the holidays, but why can't it be 80' instead of 64'?  Cute clothes will help me cope with the cold.
